In this next section of How to Be a Better-Looking Guy, you’re going to learn how (and why) losing weight makes you a more attractive man.
I know you don’t want to spend the next 3 years in a gym. So I’m going to give you the handful of things you can do that will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of improving your body shape.
The first and most important thing, and this might piss you off a little, but I’m still going to say it because I have to: you have to lose weight and get to a lower body-fat percentage.
More specifically, most guys should probably start with a goal of reaching approximately 15% body fat. You can go lower if you want, but start by aiming for 15%. This won’t make you super-ripped, but it will make an ENORMOUS difference in how you look.
Depending on what kind of body you’re walking around in right now, losing weight might be the #1 thing you can do to become a more attractive guy.
Let’s look at WHY that’s true.
Reason #1: It Makes Your Body Look Better
First, it’s going to improve your body shape dramatically. Right? That’s obvious.the whole subject of this video.
And let me clarify that for MOST GUYS, losing weight is going to make a BIGGER DIFFERENCE in your body shape than building new muscle. There are a lot of guys who spend hours in the gym trying to get buff, but it doesn’t make a dramatic difference in how they look because all their new muscle is just covered up with too much bodyfat.
Reason #2: It Makes Your Face Look Better
Losing weight will give you a leaner, more angular face. Take a look at these 4 guys. All of them lost a TON of weight:
And yeah, obviously their bodies look better—they have a much more attractive body shape…but concentrate on their FACES. Less round and pudgy… more lean, angular. In all of these cases, they went from having a rounder face…to having more of an oval face. Which, as we discussed in some of the earlier sections of this program, is generally considered the most attractive face shape.
And here are a few examples of the same thing in women. Dramatic differences in their faces:
Reason #3: Your Clothes Will Fit Better
Losing weight will also make your clothes fit better.
These are 2 examples I just showed you of how losing weight can make your face look better…but look at their clothes:
In their “before” pictures, they look like…fat-guy clothes, don’t they?
I mean this guy on the left here, from the food channel, is dressed extremely well, even in his “before” picture. But look how much more flattering those clothes look on a more slender frame.
And the guy on the right, I mean, my god. He’s wearing a huge t-shirt in his “before” picture, but you can STILL see his stomach and his man-boobs like pressing against the shirt. In his after picture he looks fantastic.
So that’s the 3rd thing to keep in mind. When you lose weight, you’ll be able to wear clothes with a more flattering fit. Now I’m not talking about clothes in depth in this section—there’s a later section in How to Be a Better-Looking Guy dedicated entirely to clothes. But in general, the most important thing about your clothes is how well they FIT. Clothes with a more modern fit, athletic fit, or tailored fit, means they hug your body better, and…that looks better. And those clothes are generally going to fit you better if you have a more slender body type.
And finally, you’ll also have a wider range of clothing options available to you. There are certain patterns, accessories, and even TYPES OF clothes that often don’t look as good on overweight guys. So by losing weight not only will clothes look better, but you’ll have a wide range of clothing options available.
How MUCH Weight Should You Lose?
OK, Now, when I say “lose weight and get down to 15% body fat”—I don’t mean for it to sound that simple. Of course losing weight is not simple at all, and it’s not easy. But again, for most guys, especially here in the US where the rates of obese and overweight people is so high, this is probably the biggest-impact thing you can do to become more attractive. Lose some weight.
Now, I gave you a goal reaching 15% body fat. But depending on how much weight you have to lose, that might not be a good INITIAL goal.
If you have more than about 20 lbs to lose, then it helps to break down your goal into smaller, more manageable chunks.
In his book The 4-Hour Body (affiliate link), Tim Ferris recommends shooting for losing 10 pounds to start. He claims that losing 10 lbs is enough to drop your clothes by 1 size, and that’s enough to noticeably increase your attractiveness…while still being a very attainable goal. Losing 50 pounds might seem daunting and overwhelming…but losing 10 pounds is something you can do relatively easily and pretty quick—if you lose 2 lbs a week, that’s only 5 weeks to a smaller clothing size.
Then, you do it again. Mentally, it feels easier to lose 10 lbs…5 times…than to lose 50 lbs. Because 50 lbs is a daunting number. But 10 is achievable.
Then, when you do finally reach 15% body fat, if you want to keep going…then aim for 12%. 10-12% bodyfat is that range where you’ll start to get what they call a “beach body,” which is where you start to look really good with your shirt off. And you might start to notice yourself looking for opportunities to take your shirt off.
Finally, one quick tip regarding weight loss, and that is the issue of water retention.
Now, have you ever noticed times when your body weight or just your body’s appearance seemed to change noticeably in the course of just 1 or 2 days? Either gaining or losing weight?
If so, that was water weight.
How Water Weight Works
If you eat an extremely high-sodium dinner tonight, then that sodium is going to cause your body to hold on to more water. That’s called water retention. And when you wake up in the morning, you’re going to look fatter and more bloated because of the extra water. Now, it won’t last forever—in a day or two you’ll process the sodium and lose the extra water weight.
So my last tip on weight loss is to try to avoid eating too much sodium, most from processed foods.
Just say “no” to frozen pizzas and microwave dinners to help you avoid that bloated look from water retention.
