Every day, people decide that they want to transform their body. For men, this usually means looking muscular. And for women, it usually means looking lean and toned.
And the first thing that comes into our heads when we think about GETTING this body…is exercise.
So for men, we usually think about lifting weights to build muscle. And women usually think about doing cardio to burn calories and lose weight.
I’m over-generalizing, but for the most part this sounds true—right?
Here’s the problem.
Exercise only accounts for about 10% of your physique. The other 90%…comes from your diet.
You could work out 2 hours a day, 1 hour of weight-lifting and 1 hour of cardio, 7 days a week, 365 days a year…but if you eat CRAP all the time, if you’re constantly getting fast food and eating chips, and ice cream, and soda…
You’re not going to look like a person who works out 7 days a week. You’re going to look…chubby. Because you’re going to be overweight.
You’ll be in good shape…if you’re exercising that much… Your heart and lungs will be healthy, and you’ll be strong, you’ll have good muscle mass…
But you won’t look the way you want to look.
So that’s lesson #1. When I say nutrition is 90% of your physique…
Physique refers to the APPEARANCE of your body.
You can be strong and fit…without LOOKING like you are strong and fit.
I mean just look at any offensive or defensive lineman in football. These guys are massively strong, but they don’t look chiseled and muscular. They look big and flabby, often, because they’ve got a bunch of bodyfat covering up those muscles.
Now for them, it makes sense. Because they need to be a certain weight in order to be a good lineman. You can’t be a good lineman in the NFL if you’re 185 pounds.
But for you…there’s no good reason to be overweight.
In fact compared to a lineman, your priorities are probably just the opposite.
They are prioritizing performance over appearance. But for you, looking good is probably your primary goal. Or at least a very important goal for you.
Of course you want to be strong, healthy, you want to be in good shape, you want to live a long healthy life…all that stuff. But you want to look good too. Am I right?
That being the case, you need to pay much more attention…to nutrition.
Guys, you want that muscular body…
Girls, you want that lean and toned body…
Well, you can get nine-tenths of the way there by just eating better.
Specifically, you want to eat food that is…
- Nutritious, so that you’re taking care of your body.
- Low in calories, so that you can burn fat and get that physique you want.
- Tasty, because if it doesn’t taste good you won’t enjoy your food and you probably won’t continue eating that way.
- Quick and easy to prepare. I don’t care if it’s the best meal in the world, if it takes 2 hours to cook…you’re not going to eat that on a regular basis.
And consistency is key.
If nutrition is 90% of your physique…then consistency is 90% of nutrition.
It’s not enough to eat one super-healthy meal once a week. You need nutritious meals on a regular basis.
