Weight loss is a winding road.
In order to be able to understand that concept, you first have to get some perspective on the weight-loss process.
Think of it like taking a picture with your camera. When you’re taking a picture, you can either zoom all the way out…so you can see everything, you can see the whole picture… Or you can zoom in, so that you can see one piece of the picture in detail.
When it comes to weight loss, one of the most common mistakes people make… Is they don’t zoom out far enough.
They don’t get a bird’s eye view of the process of losing weight and transforming your body.
In some ways this is really obvious. For example, following a fad diet might help you lose a few pounds in the short term…
(Which seems like a good idea, if you’re zoomed in on that one particular time period in your life. In other words, if you’re only looking at the short term.)
But if you were to zoom out, you would see that that fad diet will ultimately lead to rebound weight gain and frustration.
Weight Loss Is Not A Destination
What you have to realize is that your body isn’t something you ACHIEVE, and then it’s done… Your body is something you LIVE WITH.
You don’t just lose weight, and then you’re a skinny… And now you can forget about diet and exercise and focus on other stuff.
No. It stays with you. It becomes a part of your life. Or it doesn’t last.
Losing weight, building muscle, getting ripped, getting in shape, getting healthy, building a body you can feel good about and proud of…
These things are not DESTINATIONS in life. They’re journeys.
The Importance Of Taking A Bird’s Eye View On Weight Loss
And that’s why it’s so important to take a bird’s eye view, a long-term view of this whole process of losing weight and transforming your body.
Because the truth is, transforming your body is not a “straight shot.”
You don’t just go on a diet and automatically lose 2 a week, every week. No. Weight loss is a winding road. Some weeks you’ll lose 4 pounds. Some magical weeks you might lose 10 pounds. And some weeks you won’t lose any weight at all.
If you’re zoomed in so far that you can’t see beyond that one week…then not losing any weight makes that week look like a failure.
But if you can zoom out, and get some perspective on your life… You might realize that this plateau you’re experiencing right now…
Is exactly the right CHALLENGE you NEED to learn how to take the next step in your evolution and in the transformation of your body.
The Truth About Weight Loss Plateaus
See, if you zoom in too far…it’s way too easy to get frustrated. Because if you’re judging success one week at a time, that’s a pretty short window. And the fact is, it’s easy to go a week without making any progress.
But if you zoom out…
And you observe the roadmap of your body with all its twists and turns…
Then you’re in a better position to put that week into perspective. You can say:
I didn’t make any progress during this stretch of the road… But there’s still so much more to go.”
Weight Loss Is A Winding Road
And that’s what I want to leave you with.
I know it’s easy to get frustrated when your body isn’t transforming the way you want it to.
Believe me, I understand that very well.
But there’s still so much more to go!
There’s so much more time to achieve your goals.
There’s so much more life to live.
So many more days to seize.
And in time, you’ll come to realize that those weight loss “failures”—those weeks when the scale didn’t budget—they weren’t failures at all. Instead, they were feedback. They were your body’s way of telling you:
What you’ve been doing until now—what’s been working up until now—isn’t going to work anymore. If you want to lose more weight or build more muscle, then you’re going to have to try something new.”
When you look at it this way, you realize that the weeks when you don’t lose weight are actually just as important as the weeks when you do!
Because without that feedback, you wouldn’t know when it’s time to try something new.
So don’t get bogged down by day-to-day setbacks. Instead, take a step back, and see your weight loss journey for what it is:
A long, and winding, and difficult road…
That transforms who you are, not just on the outside, but inside too.
